RARE GEORGE III SILVER TWO HANDLED CUP

Of heavy gauge silver, the cup shaped bowl with applied reeded girdle
raised on a short stem and flaring reeded and stepped foot;
having scroll handles to either side, each with a small tongue,
one tongue engraved W S
Sometimes referred to as "loving cups", two handled cups are appear an outgrowth
of the early two-handled porringers. Larger versions are often given as trophies.
Jonathan Bateman was the third son of Hester Bateman,
and probably the most collectible of the Bateman silver makers.
Jonathan registered his mark with his brother Peter in December of 1790.
However he worked only 6 months, dying from cancer on April 19, 1791.
Condition : Excellent; a very minor pin-prick indentation to the rim;
retaining planishing marks often lost through years of polishing
